Is money the be all, end all? Or is there more to life in Singapore than that?

Singaporean Life is an arcade platformer where the player takes on the character of a Singaporean and navigates their way through life. The decisions they make affect their opportunities, choices and even changes the way the path is set for them. Once they have completed a playthrough, they may replay again to try out a different possible route to earn as much achievements as possible. Whether their goal is to earn the most amount of money as possible, or just enjoy the journey and not be distracted by money, it's all up to the player to decide what means most to them.

Singapore Life was developed using Unity for the Singapore Heritage Game Jam 2020.

(Disclaimer: Singapore Life contains stereotypes and perceptions that may reflect real world views. We bring it up in our game to challenge the state of our current reality, but also provide options that allow the player to defy the odds.)

Hi, just want to let you know that this is a great game and I spent literal hours on this game to get all the achievements haha. Good job man! Really proud that a indie Singaporean game can achieve this level! Also, the BGM is great too! Any chance its on Spotify? (P.S. If you ever check this comment, what is the mum saying at the start of the audio "sth sth porridge is good for your brain", what is that sth sth? Lol I heard it so many times but still can't get it)

[Some bugs I found since I played so many times]

1) If the player somehow touches the tile on the highest platform without actually landing on the tile, the player will drop down to the lowest platform with no options for activities anymore and no higher platforms to jump to. Only the cat and the chicken rice is visible hence essentially breaking the game as the player has no way to advance or end the game. This happened to me twice but somehow I lost the screenshots.

2) If the player takes the ITE route and then advances to Poly, there will be a bug whereby after finishing Poly Year 1, the option to go Poly still shows up besides the advance tertiary school;

[Some suggestions/improvements]

1) Pay rise / fight for promotion. These can happen at 5 year intervals when player starts working. It can be similar to "PSLE" and "O-Level" style levels

2) Would be cool if you can allow players to play past 50 yrs old. Then can incorporate CPF payouts somehow hahaa

3) The fitness stat can be also used to determine the likelihood of falling sick.

Overall, seriously great artwork, great music, great gameplay! Well done! Honestly if this had a little more features and was released as a paid game, I would pay money for it.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi there, we want to thank you so much for your comment! Thank you for all the bugs & suggestions as well, we planned to put in a lot more elements but due to the game jam time limit, plus with the many bugs that we encountered along the way, we couldn't fix and implement them in time. We wanted to put promotions & CPF as well, it would have been such a great commentary on real work life!

For the music, we could consider putting it on Spotify, but currently it's on another platform called bandcamp. We could put it on Youtube if you'd like! Thank you for enjoying the music as well, it means a lot! P.S. The words are, "Ah boy ah, I cook for you porridge ah, good for your brain you know!"

Very very slick gameplay and interesting game loop!

Only thing I would have to comment is that the green coloured platforms doesn't look dangerous but actually hurt you and that after awhile the platforms don't spawn as quickly as I was able to jump.

Overall great job!

Very fun to play. Though I notice in some occasions, the horizontal distance between the randomized platforms can be too large, and when the player re-selects the path downstairs again, there will be more damage-causing platforms spawned. Overall very interesting play loop and concept!
